Konrad von Abel & Orchestre des RÉgions EuropÉennes
Among German conductors of his generation Konrad von Abel is a special case. From the late seventies on he was the closest collaborator of the legendary Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache who saw in him the most promising student he ever had. After Celibidache’s death in 1996 von Abel became the most sought after teacher for all those who wanted to learn about ‘musical phenomenology’, the authentic approach to a conscious way of making music as developped by Celibidache. As a conductor von Abel only appeared where his extraordinary conditions concerning rehearsal time etc. were fulfilled. In the French town Besançon he built up the Orchestre des Régions Européennes, a fabulous chamber orchestra of players from many nations. We video captured some of their concerts.

Rony Rogoff
Rony
Rogoff became famous as one of the world’s leading violinists. For many years he was the favourite
violin soloist of the great Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache. Their
performance of the violin concerto
by Alban Berg is still sonsidered by many as the best
ever documented. In the nineties Rogoff built up his
chamber orchestra ‘La Scuola di Rony Rogoff’ in the
Italian town Vicenza. In collaboration with the Teatro
La Fenice they did an enthusiastically received live
recording CD set of the complete chamber music by Johannes Brahms. Then
the orchestra settled in the Fondazione Cini in Venice under its new
name Accademia Musicale di San Giorgio. We present three concert performances
of the Accademia conducted by Rogoff
in Salzburg (Mozart), Rome (Strauss, Bartók) and Venice (Schubert,
Bartók) as well as a documentation
of the CD recording of Anton Bruckner’s string quintet in the arrangement
for string orchestra.

Markus Theinert
 As
a virtuosic tuba player Markus Theinert gained experience
in leading orchestras like the Berlin Philharmonic. He
was already a notable conductor when he met Sergiu Celibidache
who gave him deeper insights into the inner life of music.
It meant a special challenge to him to make the Musikkorps
der Bayerischen Polizei a leading wind ensemble with unique
refinement of sound and phrasing. He also gives courses
in the USA and Japan. We present him here in concert with
an extensive programme of wind orchestra hits and rarities.
